Deborah (Debi) Ikenador (she/her/hers) was born and raised in Imo State, Nigeria, and immigrated to the United States in 2009. She grew up in Fontana in the Southern California area. She is a first-generation college graduate from the University of California, Merced. She earned her BA in both Political Science and Economics in May 2018. She served eleven months as an AmeriCorps member in partnership with City Year Sacramento, working in close proximity with community members and one-on-one with students in Title I schools. She continued her work in education and serving students as a Program Assistant in a number of programs in partnership with the Student Academic Success & Educational Equity Programs at California State University, Sacramento. There she helps coordinate and facilitate workshops and other educational services for both undergraduate and graduate first-generation students, as well as promotes inclusivity and equity across the student body. She is currently completing her Master of Arts in Multicultural Education at California State University, Sacramento. She is also a contributing writer for World of Our Own, where she writes about women empowerment; current events; and social, political, and economic issues.
