Jennifer E. Figliomeni, aka Fig, began her career in education as a Ninth-Grade Teacher at Marathon High School in Marathon, Ontario, Canada. After teaching Career Studies, Geography, and Physical Education there, she moved to Chicago and spent a decade teaching various grade levels for Chicago Public Schools, mainly in socially and culturally diverse and underserved neighborhoods. Fig has taught elementary, middle, and high school, served as an instructional coach, an ELD TOSA, a Language and Literacy, History and Social Sciences Program Coordinator, and is now the Teacher Residency Program Coordinator at the Monterey County Office of Education. She has also instructed several courses with Alder, including ED 230, ED 231M, and ED 205.

Fig earned a BA in Psychology and History from Lake Forest College, a BEd in Elementary Education K-9 from Lakehead University, an MEd in Curriculum and Instruction and ESL at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an EdD in Reading and Literacy from Capella University.

Having been born and raised in Northwestern Ontario, Fig is pretty much done with the cold and snow, and she moved to California for the yearlong sunny weather. She enjoys taking walks on the beach with her pup, Lucia, reading, Pilates, watching movies, and traveling.
