As the Director of the Alder at Aspire Bay Area Residency, Lena is responsible for managing Alder Graduate School of Education’s Teacher Residency in the Oakland/Richmond, California, area. She is the main faculty member in her region and is responsible for teaching graduate-level courses to the Teacher Residents. Lena launched her educational career in 2002 as a Fifth-Grade Teacher in LAUSD, where she later became an Elementary Literacy Coach. In 2006, she transitioned out of the school district to become a Consulting Instructional Coach with Action Learning Systems. In that role, she supported K–12 educators and administrators across the United States with standards-based lesson planning, interactive instructional delivery, and proactive classroom management, and she supported the shift to Common Core State Standards. In 2016, Lena began her journey in administration as a Principal Resident, then as an Assistant Principal at Aspire College Academy for four years. Lena holds a BA from UC Santa Barbara and an MA from UC Los Angeles.
