Aspire Teacher Residency LA at Alder GSE

Resident, Cohort 2019–2020
Residency Placement: Aspire Firestone Academy
Mentor: Marisol Hernandez

What is your hometown? Los Angeles, California

What college did you attend? San Francisco State University

What degree did you earn? BA in Child Development with an emphasis in Young Children and Early Education

What inspired you to teach? Teaching is my calling and I am fully committed to working hard and to learn as much as I can along the way. The drive and desire I have to teach and help others have only grown stronger. Our world is constantly changing and developing, and in order for myself as an educator to meet the needs of each individual learner, I am always striving to learn and understand more about education and how I can not only better myself as an educator, but also better serve my students and community and ensure that they are provided with the best education and learning experience.

Why did you choose Alder’s Teacher Residency program? I chose the Alder Teacher Residency program because getting to work and learn with an amazing mentor and being able to be teaching in a classroom at the same time I am learning is a one-of-a-kind experience. This program, I feel, helps you grow and become aware of who you are as an educator and what works for you and what doesn’t work.
