Alicia Mendez is the Senior Program Coordinator for Teacher Residents at Grow Public Schools in Kern County, CA. Alicia began her teaching career as a 2nd grade STEM teacher at Grow Academy Shafter before transitioning as an Instructional Coach and Induction Mentor supporting TK-8th grade teachers across the GPS network. As an Instructional Coach, Alicia led professional learning for teachers that centered around deepening content knowledge and instructional practices in mathematics and early literacy. She coached teachers in analyzing student data to develop lessons that led to authentic student engagement, inclusiveness, and equitable learning opportunities for all students.

Alicia holds a B.A in Liberal Studies and an M.A. in Education- Curriculum and Instruction from California State University, Bakersfield. Having been raised in a rural community in Kern County, she is passionate about developing high quality teachers that will have a positive impact on the educational experiences of students living in rural communities.

Outside of work, Alicia enjoys gardening and the outdoors. She also likes animals, reading, sports, and spending time with her family.
