Special Education Content Specialist

Ilene Fernandez Ivins is a Special Education Teacher and Administrator based in Los Angeles, California. She started her career in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a high school English & Algebra Special Education Teacher in 2003. In her seven years as a Program Specialist and Director of Special Education with Aspire Public Schools in the Los Angeles region, she worked with the other regional leaders to create a robust special education program that has been recognized throughout the state for serving students in an inclusive setting. She has participated in university-level research on teacher education, special education, and economics. Currently, she is working as the Director of Curriculum, 6–12 for the Aspire Los Angeles Region. She holds a BA from Vassar College, an MA in Special Education from San Francisco State, and an EdD from the University of Southern California.
