Joi is an Atlanta native. She has worked in the field of education for over ten years as a teacher, instructional coach, Dean of Culture and Instruction, School Principal, and, most recently, as an Alder Director of Teachers Residency. Joi began her work in Inglewood, California, teaching 6th and 7th grade at a Waldorf Environmental Charter School where she learned the power of curriculum creation and arts and science–based education. While in Los Angeles, Joi earned her teaching credential in Multiple Subjects and her MA in Educational Policy and Leadership from Loyola Marymount University. She later moved to the Bay Area and began teaching 3rd–5th grade in San Francisco Unified. She later moved to West Contra Costa Unified as a middle-school history teacher, and later as a Dean and School Leader. In her free time, Joi loves to spend time with her daughter, read, eat, travel, and dance.
