Maria Alejandri is the Managing Director of Recruitment at Alder Graduate School of Education and a first-generation college graduate who double majored in Political Science and History at UC Berkeley, before completing an MSc in Politics and Government in the European Union at the London School of Economics and Political Science. After working in communications and public affairs in London and Brussels, she taught Spanish and English as a Second Language in Baltimore. Maria joined the staff at Teach For America as a Recruitment Manager for the Cal State Universities and recruited nearly 120 talented CSU graduates to Teach For America’s corps. She partnered closely with the Dream Success/Resource Centers across the CSUs to increase the number of DACAmented students teaching and leading students in K–12 classrooms across the United States. She then spent four years on Teach For America’s Professional Recruitment Team, leading teams that brought in nearly a thousand new educators every year and strengthening national partnerships with AmeriCorps partners including City Year. Her experiences both as a K–12 student and as an educator continue to drive her dedication to increasing the diversity of our national teaching corps and ensuring that all students have access to effective, dedicated teachers.
