Marlene Lopez is a first-generation college graduate born in Juárez, Chihuahua and raised in Los Angeles, California. She received her Bachelors in English and Korean from the University of California, Los Angeles in June 2021. During her undergraduate work, Marlene was a part of the CHAMPs program at UCLA, where she tutored elementary-school students, who, like her, came from a low-income community in Los Angeles. She also advocated in support of college students facing housing and food insecurity through the nonprofit organization RISE. Her first roles with Alder as a Student Services intern and as Recruitment and Student Services Coordinator reinforced her desire to work within the field of education. Moving forward as an Enrollment and Credentials Manager, Marlene aspires to continue supporting Alder residents in their journeys to becoming excellent teachers.
