Matthew Alsbury is the current Director of New Teacher Residency for the Alder GSE High Desert cohort. Matt moved to California from Montana with two goals in mind: to teach, and to be closer to Dodger Stadium.

Matt received his BS in Liberal Studies from Oregon State University before receiving his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Montana. After seven years in the classroom, he became the interim Principal for Challenger School of Sports and Fitness, then went on to receive his Administrative Services Credential from National University. Matt has spent the last 10 years as Principal of Challenger. He helped to build a strong SWPBIS program and culture. Matt values supporting social emotional learning, cultivating a positive classroom culture, integrating fitness and health in the school day, and creating meaningful connections with students. Matt has led change at Challenger in data analysis and making data-driven decisions to make a positive impact on student learning.

Matt enjoys coaching his children’s basketball and baseball teams. His hobbies include wakeboarding, wakesurfing, drawing, listening to music, and camping with his wife and three children.
