A Day in the Life of a Teacher Resident at Alder GSE The “Day in the Life” shows an example schedule of a Multiple Subject/Elementary Resident at one of our partner school sites as they develop as a teacher in Alder’s academic program. Please note that every resident experience is different and will vary based on credential subject and school placement. During COVID-19, residents work with their Mentor Teacher in defining responsibilities during distance learning in accordance with their school site’s schedule. Before School Arrive at school. 8:00 a.m. Attend all-school morning assembly. 8:15 a.m. Begin your classroom morning routines. 8:25 a.m. Read aloud to students while your mentor observes. 8:40 am Co-teach phonics lesson with your mentor. 9:00 a.m. Co-teach reading lesson with your mentor. 9:45 a.m. Lead small-group guided reading. 10:20 a.m. Recess. 10:40 a.m. Observe your mentor lead writers’ workshop and engage in writing conferences with students. 11:40 a.m. Lead additional guided reading groups with your mentor while students do independent reading. 12:00 noon Collaborate with grade-level team and eat lunch. 12:40 p.m. Observe your mentor leading number talks. 1:00 p.m. Engage in biweekly check-in with your school’s Education Specialist. Then, you and your mentor have a coaching conversation about the morning’s read-aloud. 1:40 p.m. Receive real-time coaching from your mentor as you teach a Eureka Math lesson. 2:30 p.m. Work with four students at math workstations focused on fractions. 3:00 p.m. Clean up and prepare students to go home. 3:15 p.m. Engage with as many parents as you can during student dismissal and pick-up. After School Attend grade-level team meeting, analyze data from today’s lessons, review tomorrow’s lesson plans, and/or make positive phone calls to three students’ homes. Evening Work on graduate coursework as needed.
